  • $32 license renewal fee (valid for 2 years); $51 license renewal fee (valid for 4 years)
  • $30 fee for Enhanced Driver License, that is an additional $30 (if applicable)

If you'll renew your license and apply for REAL ID, you need the following:

  • Proof of your identity

What You’ll Need to Do to Renew your Vermont Driver License Online

  1. Go to the Vermont DMV license renewal website.
  2. Type in your last name, date of birth, license number and Social Security Number.
  3. Pay the fee as the system shown.
  4. Upon completion, you will receive a confirmation that you can print immediately and carry it with your current license/ID.
  5. Your permanent license will arrive by mail within 10 business days.

Here are Vermont driver's license renewal exceptions to note:

  • If you have a Driving Privilege Card (DPC) and wish to upgrade to a Real ID Compliant Driver’s License or, Non-Enhanced Driver's License and want to upgrade to an Enhanced Driver’s License (EDL) you must renew in person and you will need documentation to establish identity.
  • You should receive a renewal notice by mail approximately 30 days before your driver's license expires.
  • If you do not receive your renewal application, you must complete form VL-021 to renew your license.
  • You may renew by mail if your license photo was taken within the last 4 years and is not a Commercial Driver's License.
