What You’ll Need to Do to Renew your Rhode Island Driver License Online
If you need to change the address, you will have to update here first before proceeding to renewal.
To renew online, access Official State if Rhode Island Online Service.
- Complete your application online.
- Pay the fee of $61.50 by card.
- Your license renewal request will be processed within 3 business days.
- Your new license will be sent to the address on file within 60 days.
Note: Online renewal may be unavailable on Saturday 8:30 PM through Monday 7:30 AM and every day between 6:45 AM and 7:30 AM.
What You’ll Need to Do to Renew your Rhode Island Driver License in Person
You must renew in person if:
- You are a non-US citizen.
- Your license expired more than 180 days ago.
- Your license is suspended or revoked.
- Complete the application form.
- Bring the form and your current license. If your license is lost, check the third page of the application for the list of documents required. If you are a visa applicant, you are required to bring immigration/naturalization documents.
- Pay the fee of $61.50 for the 5-year renewal. You can pay by cash, money order, checks, and credit card (MasterCard, Discover, Visa and American Express). You will have to add the $1.50 technology surcharge and a service fee of $1.50 if paid by a credit card.
- Receive your temporary license.
You will receive your permanent license by mail within 45 days. If you don't receive the license after 45 days, call (401) 462-5862.
